Company Background
MolMo Services is an independent, privately funded company located in Retie, Belgium.
MolMo Services was founded in February 2005 as a spin-off from Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical
Research and Development. Our team consists of the four founders of the company,
all with an proven expertise in the field of computational chemistry, software development, and drug design.
MolMo Services aims to provide a pathway from research areas like bioinformatics, molecular biology,
and data mining towards the actual synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant compounds.
We provide software, computing services, drug target models,
targeted compound libraries (virtual and physical), synthesis planning,
contract synthesis and all other services needed for that purpose.
Our Team
Frits Daeyaert is co-founder of MolMo Services. He studied chemistry and computer science at the University
of Antwerp, Belgium. He holds a Ph.D. in vibrational spectroscopy and
was a postdoc at the University of South Carolina. He joined Janssen
Pharmaceutica in 1995 where he specialized in molecular modeling and
chemometrics. His research interests include the application of 'natural
computing' methods such as genetic algorithms, simulated annealing and
neural networks to challenging problems in computational drug design.
Marc de Jonge is co-founder of MolMo Services. He studied physics, astronomy and geology at Utrecht University and received his Ph.D. in
geophysics in 1995. He worked as researcher and research fellow between 1996 and 2004 for Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Development, at
the Center for Molecular Design, part of Janssen Pharmaceutica NV. He was involved in developing novel
computational methodologies for drug design, chemoinformatics and in the design of new classes of inhibitors for HIV.
Luc Koymans is co-founder of MolMo Services. He has over 20 years of experience in molecular modeling and drug design.
He has worked in a variety of fields including cytochromes P450, proteases, G-protein coupled receptors and HIV research.
Furthermore, he has gathered extensive experience in the field of virtual reality and scientific visualization.
Prior to founding MolMo Services he worked as principal scientist at the Center for Molecular Design at Janssen
Pharmaceutica in Belgium. Luc Koymans holds a M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University, 1987 and a Ph.D.
in pharmacochemistry, Free University Amsterdam, 1992.
Maarten Vinkers is co-founder of MolMo Services. He studied theoretical chemistry and pharmacochemistry at the Free University
of Amsterdam and holds a Ph.D. in computational drug design. He was involved in computational toxicology research and the
implementation of semi-empirical models in ab initio software. He joined Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1997 where he has
developed and applied computational methods for the design of novel medicinal compounds, among which a de novo design
algorithm that ensures the synthetic feasibility of the designed compounds.
